Leipzig

I took a day trip to Leipzig on Saturday. Great fun - there is a nice, old historic town center full of fun buildings, churches, etc. Beyond the old town, there are some nice parks and a fun, younger neighborhood where the students hang out.

Coffee shop culture is big here, though in a different way than in the US. For one thing, no laptops in coffee shops - they are a place to drink coffee, eat good desserts, and to be social. Here is a fun coffee shop in downtown Leipzig.

Leipzig is famous for classical music and churches. Here's the Nicolai Church.

And here's Bach, outside the church where he worked.

Hmmm, the arches on the church are similar to what we're studying in my art class. However, I agree with the Germans on coffee shop culture- skip the laptop and get to the desserts!
