Christmas Market

On Monday, my group (the Geometric Analysis Division of AEI) went out to the Christmas Market in Potsdam. Conveniently, this is located 1 block from my house.

Basically, the Christmas Market is a street filled with little wooden huts, each selling something. About 1/3 of the huts sell some sort of sausage (Wurst), usually served with a small roll (Brotchen). Another 1/3 sell Gluewein, which is a hot, spiced wine-based drink - it's delicious! The remainder of the huts either sell crepes, fried items, or non-food items such as hats & gloves, or little Christmas decorations.

There are lights & greenery decorating the whole street - and lots of people milling about. The whole thing is quite fun - I'll have to resist the temptation to have a Wurst at the market for dinner every night from now until Christmas (which is the 24th here, by the way).

Oh, I should mention that the market has driven down the price of a Wurst on the street - it's now 1.50 Euro!

Here's picture of the market:

Here's a picture of me with another mathematician enjoying some Gluewein (in fairness, he wasn't ready for this picture to be taken).

I’ve been meaning to contribute a comment, yet the spirit has not led until you described the bacchanalian glories of the Christmas Market (and yes, that is an excellent price for a Wurst).

If you have the time you ought to head up to visit Knut. Should you have the opportunity, give him my best, and tell him to take a roll in the mud for me.
