We spent this past Saturday at Crystal Mountain, doing a bit of downhill skiing. I had not been there since the winter of 2000-2001! Many things are the same; some things have changed. We enjoyed the "new" lodge located where the top of the Campbell Basin chair used to be and the high-speed version of the Green Valley lift. I also enjoyed being back on the old familiar slopes.
The weather was typical Crystal - snowing and blowing hard all day. (Thus no pictures.) This was actually good: it kept the crowds down and made for nice soft snow. Iva is now making nice linked parallel turns. We spent most of the day on Chair 9 before heading up for a couple trips down the ridge in Green Valley in the afternoon. Just as I remember it, Lucky Shot was scraped clean and icy at the end of the day...
We ended the day in style with a drink at the Snorting Elk before heading back to Tacoma. It was good that we decided not to spend the night: the roads were bare and wet for us on Saturday, but the snow level dropped overnight and we woke up to snow in Tacoma the next morning!
