Les Hauderes

We spend several days camping in the village of Les Hauderes (ask Ruthie how to pronounce it...) which was great, despite the daily evening rainshower. The valley confirms all the (good) stereotypes of Switzerland: mountains, cows, cheese, cute houses. Here is Iva in front of a traditional farmhouse.

The Kolbs joined us for a night of camping and some nice walks.

Iva and I stayed a couple more days and did some more walking. One day we took a bus up to the end of the valley and hiked in the high country. Here is a path at the head of the valley.

Parts of the trail were "exciting", but Paul (afraid of heights) perservered.

We had a picnic lunch by this cabin, in which one can also stay the night.

The next day we traversed the east side of the valley. Here is a local greeting Paul as we walk by.

We later saw that guy and his family raking hay near our lunch spot. Speaking of lunch, we ate this awesome local bread from the village bakery - doesn't this look good?

Here is a movie to show you a panorama from this lunch spot.
