Stony Brook House

I'm in Stony Brook for a relativity workshop put on by the new Simons Center. It's just the first day, but I'm very impressed with the workshop already - excellent talks, good organization, etc. The Stony Brook campus is pretty neat, too.

However, the area surrounding Stony Brook is pretty drab. Lots of suburban housing with no sidewalks, lots of strip malls, etc.

Nevertheless, I walked to campus from my motel this morning in order to enjoy the sunshine. I did manage to find an old classy street full of houses with (cedar?) shake siding. They all looked more or less like this.
I thought it was interesting.

(Yes, this is a pretty typical sized house, also.)
