A month ago we spend a weekend camping in the Alsace, located in northeast France on the west side of the Rhine river. We took the night train, with our bikes! Here I am securing our bicycles in the luggage car before heading for bed.

The next morning, we arrived in cute Colmar. From there we spent the weekend biking from village to village, making frequent stops to make sure the local bakery was satisfactory. And, of course, the Alsace is known for its white wines; we were sure to sample some each evening (if not more often).
An interesting feature of the Alsace is the German-influenced architecture. Here is Iva in downtown Colmar:

Many of the buildings have detailed woodwork. We really liked this corner post.

Here is our camp in Ribbeauville. We were one of the few tent-campers in the campground. In fact, the majority of the campers were from the Netherlands, and came with small trailers towed behind their cars. Many people set up camp for a longer period of time and come equipped with all sorts of stuff: lawn furniture, awnings for their trailer, etc. We were packing light; notice our cute little stove.

One of the great things about our trip was riding our bikes through the vinyards. They had just started to blossom - we can only imagine how colorful it is in the fall! Another fun feature of the Alsace is that each village has a Chateau, or fortress, located near town. Here I am riding through the fields with Chateau in view.

One of the Chateaus was dedicated to St. Ulrich.

Here is the view looking south from Chateau St. Ulrich.

Of course, we had to indulge in the local bread, cheese, sausages, and wine. Here is our lunch on Sunday.

It was a great trip!
